What is SEO?

SEO stands for "Search Engine Optimization"

This is VERY important if you are creating a website to attract more business. Different search engines (such as yahoo or google) use different criteria when rating your website.

With the best "SEO", your website will rank high and will show up closer to the beginning of searches, resulting in more people finding your website.

Where your website shows up on a certain search depends on how well you've designed your website to show up in these results. This, however, excludes paid advertisements on these search sites. The criteria is constantly changing as search engines are constantly improving their searching methods. Some criteria that the search engine may be looking at are:

  • how pertinant your web address is related to your business
  • content and key words
  • meta tags
  • how often the site is updated

Good Website Criteria:

Many businesses are unsure of what criteria to look at when deciding what makes a good website. While this criteria changes somewhat depending on the type of industry, here are a few general points to consider:

  • Is it clear what your website is about?
  • Ease of Navigation - can users find what they are looking for?
  • Overcrowded graphics - If the site is not pleasing to look at, people will move on.
  • Does the site look good in different browsers and different size monitors?
  • ***Can users find your contact information quickly and easily?****
